Our mission
The Racial Diversity Campaign was launched by the Federal Board to support outstanding BAME Liberal Democrats to seek and win public office.
There are three key pillars to this mission:
-
Support BAME members to become approved candidates: Increase the proportion of BAME candidates on the approved list from 8% (at GE2019) to 13% by the end of this RDC executive’s term in February 2023, in line with the 2011 Census (this target may be revised to reflect the 2021 Census).
-
Support BAME approved candidates to be selected as candidates: Increase the proportion of BAME candidates selected as prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) from 9% (at GE2019) to 13% by the next General Election, in line with the 2011 Census.
-
Support BAME PPCs to win elections: Increase the proportion of BAME Liberal Democrat MPs from 18% (GE2019) to 25% at the next General Election.
